‘Gerhard Richter Painting’ gets inside his studio

★ ★ ★ Gerhard Richter Painting An up-close-and-not-impersonal look at the acclaimed artist. Corinna Belz, who wrote and directed the documentary, gives Richter lots of screen time, which he and his art fill very well. Painting “under observation,” he ruefully says to an off-camera Belz, “is worse than being in the hospital.” He does seem to recover. In German and English, with English subtitles.
