A second trailer for “Black Mass” is out, and it further depicts Johnny Depp playing Whitey Bulger as a cold-blooded killer.
The trailer shows Depp as Bulger, talking to a young boy at their dinner table, along with scenes of the violence that Bulger commits.
“There are lessons again and again throughout your whole life, and you got to learn from these things, right?” Depp says. “It’s not what you do, it’s when and where you do it, and who you do it to or with.”
The boy listens silently.
“If nobody sees it, it didn’t happen.”
The trailer ends with the words: “Johnny Depp is the most feared, the most wanted, the most notorious gangster in U.S. history.”
The movie — based on the book “Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI, and a Devil’s Deal,” by former Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill — is set for release on September 18. It also stars Kevin Bacon as Charles McGuire, a Boston FBI agent, and Benedict Cumberbatch as William, Bulger’s brother, among others.
