The deal: Alt-rapper and DJ Edan will be getting behind the tables Saturday at Inman Square gallery/performance space Lily Pad. The event came about casually: Edan was tinkering in his friend Jesse Gallagher's studio above Lily Pad, and Gallagher happens to book the occasional Saturday night event there. Edan is appropriately laid-back about his approach to the set. "Some of it'll be preplanned, very mindful, well thought-out, and then I'll interrupt that and start playing 45s at random," he says. Gallagher, who fronts the band Apollo Sunshine, says Edan is one of his favorite DJs. "I like that he keeps it real," Gallagher says. "It sounds right on the beat to the point where it sounds like someone's editing with a computer, but he's still really playful about it." Gallagher will also be projecting visual accompaniment throughout the set. Edan says he's just hoping to have a good time with it. "It's a glorified excuse to hang out," he laughs.

The DJ: Edan has a fondness for older music, and plans to combine psych, rock, and soul, while keeping it up-tempo.

The drink: Lily Pad recently got a new bar with six beers on tap.

Three artists you'll hear: Expect some James Brown, ESG, and Liquid Liquid.

The tip: “Come with an open mind,” says Edan. “I don’t think I make it too difficult, but you’ve got to be ready to just go on the ride and let somebody take you somewhere.” Andrew Doerfler
