Avalon Reunion 2012
House of Blues, Saturday, 10 p.m. 15 Lansdowne St., Boston. Tickets: $10. 888-693-2583, www.houseofblues.com.
The deal: Before House of Blues ruled Lansdowne Street, there was Avalon. Though 15 Lansdowne has been reoccupied for nearly five years, the spirit of Avalon returns this Saturday with a ’90s-themed blowout sure to stir up nostalgia for Boston’s veteran clubgoers. At
1 a.m., legendary diva Vernessa Mitchell will take the stage to perform her biggest hits.
The DJs: DJ Richie LaDue and DJ Darrin Friedman, both of ’90s Avalon fame, will be blasting dance hits and classics from decades past.
What to wear: “In the spirit of the ’90s, we encourage club-kid wear, but it’s usually pretty casual dress,” says Chris Harris, promoter of Epic Saturdays. “Lots of shirtless men in jeans. . . . Some things never change.”
Three songs you’ll hear: “Unspeakable Joy” by Kim English; “It’s Over Now” by Deborah Cox; “If Madonna Calls” by Junior Vasquez.
The drink: Avalon bartender Rob Botelho will be serving up his South Beach Slammer, “a cross somewhere between an Alabama Slammer and Sex on the Beach. And like South Beach, it’s tropical, sexy, and seductive,” says Harris.
The tip: Use the LevelUp app for 25 percent off admission — first-time users get in free.
