XMORTIS ÜBER: A GOTHIC FORMAL
Friday, Dec. 14, 9 p.m., T.T. the Bear’s Place, Cambridge. 18+. Tickets: $10, $5 before 10:30 p.m. 617-492-0082, www.ttthebears.com, www.xmortis.com
The deal: Xmortis, first launched at the now-closed ManRay, has been providing goth and industrial fans a place to dance for more than eight years. The event graces T.T. the Bear’s Place once a month, each time with a theme. This month, it’s another installment of Xmortis’s pretty-much-annual gothic formal, Über. “It was one of our first themes. . . . We’ve done it pretty consistently over the entire run,” says Xmortis cofounder Patrick Fitzgerald.
The DJs: Xmortis resident DJ Chris Ewen and DJ Black/Mail, who has spun at a handful of Xmortis events in the past.
The drink: There’s a drink special every month, but it’s usually not decided upon until the day of the event. The last few months, it’s been announced on the Xmortis Twitter account, @TeXtmortis.
Who goes there: A diverse alternative crowd. “There’s all kinds of different people, from old-school goth kids who still wear flowy satin and lace, to punk rockers, to everything in between,” says DJ Black/Mail, a.k.a. Allen Homan.
Three songs you might hear: “Don’t Fall,” The Chameleons UK;
“Bizarre Love Triangle,” New Order; “Perpetual,” VNV Nation.
The tip: It’s formal. Fitzgerald says many people don suits and gowns. At the very least, wear all black.
