Behind the music

Songwriters are the lifeblood of Nashville and the quartet of tunesmiths playing with the Boston Pops for “A Country Salute to Our Troops” Wednesday through Friday — Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson, and Troy Verges — have written or co-written some of the most successful songs to come out of Music City in the last 10 years, with dozens of hits among them. Often they have done it together, as is the case with Carrie Underwood’s Grammy-winning smash “Jesus, Take the Wheel” which was co-written by James, Lindsey, and Sampson. Here are just a few other songs they’ve had a hand in sending onto the radio and into music fans’ hearts.
