Plastique at Midway Café

Plastique: Summer’s Here!

Sunday, 9 p.m. The Midway Cafe, 3496 Washington Street, Jamaica Plain. 21+. Cover: $5. 617-524-9038,

The deal: Dance the night away at a beginning-of-summer blowout bash that is all about getting partygoers on the floor. Inspired by what DJ and promoter James Derek Dwyer calls a “theme-clubbing renaissance,” the night will feature a spectrum of cool sights and sounds focused on synth-pop and a wide range of electronic beats, with retro hits, nu disco, dance pop, Euro-divas, and a few current tunes thrown in for good measure. “We love when someone says ‘I loved this song back in the day,’ or ‘What is that song?’ ” says Dwyer.

The DJs: Brian Halligan and Dwyer.

What you’ll hear: A mix of electronic, house, and alternative dance beats that combine original sounds with well-known, back-in-the-day tracks. “You should never have to Shazam an entire set.”

Who goes: All walks of life from the artistic and eclectic to dancing divas. “We welcome pretty much anyone who wants to get down.”

The tip: Dwyer suggests guests clock in some shut-eye before the party and be ready to move all night long. “A disco nap would be a good idea since we go until almost 2 a.m. on a school night.”
