Conductor Andris Nelsons arrived at Symphony Hall on Tuesday, June 25 to make his Boston Symphony Orchestra musical director title official.
With Ted Kelly (left), chairman of the BSO board of trustees, and Mark Volpe, managing director of the BSO, Nelsons signed his contract to become the 15th music director.
The signing took place at the start of a whirlwind day. Pictured, Nelsons chatting with members of the BSO, trustees and members of the search committee.

At Faneuil Hall, Nelstons led a BSO brass ensemble.
Before the Red Sox -Colorado Rockies game at Fenway Park, Nelsons said he was nervous about throwing the first pitch.
Red Sox great Pedro Martinez offered pitching advice. “Just don’t bounce it,” Martinez said.
Nelsons threw the first pitch, arcing the ball a good 25 feet over the catcher and into the hands of a photographer.
