Grab the Mic
At: The Patio, 80 Broadway St., Malden. Friday, 7:45 p.m.-1 a.m., 21+. Free. 781-324-9826, www.thepatioonbroadway.com
The deal: Grab the Mic is a free event that has been around for three years but has found a new home in Malden at The Patio, occurring there every Friday night. The microphone will be open to anyone who wants to get up on stage and perform for up to five minutes. Whether you’re a poet, rapper, singer, or you just want to be heard, this is the place to go — and there is no filter on language. Registration for performers starts at 7:45 p.m. and performances end at 10:30 p.m., after which DJ Nomadik will take over for the rest of the night.
The performers: Various amateurs as well as Nomadik.
Three songs you’ll hear: “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke; “Off the Wall” by Michael Jackson; and “T.R.O.Y.” by Pete Rock & CL Smooth.
Who goes there: Anyone who wants to be heard or discover some unknown talent.
The tip: Bring money to enjoy $2 drafts and $4 mixed drinks. And “expect the unexpected,” DJ Nomadik says.
