Sky’s the limit

SKY FERREIRA Befitting an album named “Night Time, My Time,” this aspiring pop singer’s new album pulses with a nocturnal vibe that’s every shade of neon. Ferreira, who got a taste of infamy recently when she and her boyfriend got busted for drug possession, paints herself as an electro-pop rocker who wears her heart on her sleeve. The Smith Westerns open. Nov. 13, 8 p.m. Tickets: $20, $18 in advance. Paradise Rock Club. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com

Pop & Rock

MY BLOODY VALENTINE Bigger tours have passed through town this year, but few have generated such fervent anticipation as My Bloody Valentine’s show this week, which is nearly sold out. Building on the buzz of this year’s “MBV,” their first album in 22 years (and only the Irish band’s third studio album overall), these seminal alt-rockers are on the road after sporadic reunion tours in recent years. Word on the street is that the band is as brutally loud as ever. Nov. 7, 8 p.m. Tickets: $37-$49.50. House of Blues. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com

MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS One of the more heartwarming story lines in pop music this year was the long-overdue success of Macklemore, a Seattle-based rapper (born Ben Haggerty) with a heart of gold and a clutch of catchy beats helmed by his producer, Ryan Lewis. “Thrift Shop,” their first big hit, caught fire as a hybrid of old-school hip-hop and soul, but the duo’s music has also championed social causes such as same-sex marriage (“Same Love”). Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $29.50-$59.50. TD Garden. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com

ELTON JOHN A back-to-basics formula – mostly just his voice with piano, bass, and drums layered into dialed-down arrangements – worked wonders for John on his acclaimed new album, “The Diving Board.” After years of Disney-fied pop songs, it’s a pleasure to hear John return to form with rootsy story songs written by his longtime collaborator, Bernie Taupin. Nov. 12, 8 p.m. Tickets: $39-$149.50. TD Garden. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com

Folk, World & Country

LUCKY TUBB AND THE MODERN DAY HAWAIIANS Usually, the band behind this grand-nephew of country legend Ernest Tubb reflects that lineage with the epithet “Modern Day Troubadours.” But to play the latest of the ongoing “Polynesian Pounce” series of shows, they’ll be Hawaiians for a day and will play at least some of their cowboy tunes island-style. Nov. 9, 9 p.m. Tickets: $10. Midway Café, Jamaica Plain. 617-524-9038, www.midwaycafe.com

OFFIONG BASSEY She is the first generation of her Nigerian family to be born in America, and Offiong Bassey’s music reflects that bi-fold background, rooted in West African traditions and pulling in jazz, soul and funk, gospel and Latin elements. Nov. 12, 8 p.m. Tickets: $20. Scullers Jazz Club. 888-777-8932, www.ticketweb.com

PAUL BURCH & THE WPA BALLCLUB Over the course of eight solo albums (as well as a collaboration with the Waco Brothers), Nashvillian Paul Burch has consistently made music that incorporates variegated shades of country and much else besides and simultaneously sounds as old as the ages and like nothing else. His new record, “Fevers,” is no different. Nov. 12, 9 p.m. Tickets: $8. Atwood’s Tavern, Cambridge. 617-864-2792, www.atwoodstavern.com

HE’S MY BROTHER SHE’S MY SISTER The “he” is Rob Kolar, the “she” is Rachel Kolar, and as the band- and last name indicate, they are siblings. Together with their unrelated bandmates, they play a variety of muscular Americana that’s swampy and bluesy, theatrical, and psychedelic. Nov. 13, 9 p.m. Tickets: $12. Great Scott. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com
