CHARLI XCX  From England, this rising pop star already has proven songwriting chops (she co-wrote “I Love It,” the Icona Pop hit) and a penchant for what she calls “dark pop.” Charli XCX’s new debut, “True Romance,” has a jukebox feel, veering from hip-hop to electronic dance music to big radio-friendly ballads. (This is a rescheduled date from September.) Nov. 12, 9 p.m. Tickets: $19, $17 in advance. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com

ELTON JOHN A back-to-basics formula — mostly just his voice with piano, bass, and drums layered into dialed-down arrangements — worked wonders for John on his acclaimed new album, “The Diving Board.” After years of Disney-fied pop songs, it’s a pleasure to hear John return to form with rootsy story songs written by his longtime collaborator, Bernie Taupin. Nov. 12, 8 p.m. Tickets: $39-$149.50. TD Garden. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com

SLEIGH BELLS This indie-rock duo from Brooklyn, N.Y., gets a lot of mileage out of their contrasts, specifically their loud-soft dynamic. Singer Alexis Krauss has a sweetness that recalls girl-group pop from the 1960s, but her bandmate, Derek Miller, surrounds her with hulking, heavy rock that creates a compelling tension in Sleigh Bells’ music. They’re touring behind “Bitter Rivals,” their third album, which explores new sonic territory by playing with tempos and instrumentation. Nov. 16, 6:30 p.m. Tickets: $27, $25 in advance. Royale. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com
