The Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andris Nelsons has received Grammy nominations for the second year in a row. “Shostakovich Under Stalin’s Shadow: Symphonies Nos. 5, 8, and 9,” released worldwide on Deutsche Grammophon in May, is in the running for best orchestral performance and best engineered album, classical. If it wins in the latter category, the honor will go to engineers Shawn Murphy and Nick Squire and mastering engineer Tim Martyn.
The first installment in the “Shostakovich Under Stalin’s Shadow” series, which includes Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 and the Passacaglia from the opera “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk,” captured the Grammy for best orchestral performance in February. Nelsons is slated to continue recording Shostakovich’s complete symphonies, as well as the complete “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk,” with the BSO on Deutsche Grammophon.
