What’s on TV tonight: Critic’s Corner

ABC FAMILY

“Melissa & Joey”

Melissa & Joey 8 p.m., ABC Family

Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence have a lot in common having both grown up on television. First, she explained it all to us as “Clarissa” and then she was our favorite teenage witch “Sabrina.” He made the young girls swoon with his signature “whoa!” on “Blossom” and then blossomed into a more adult role on “American Dreams.” Both are also “Dancing With the Stars” alums. But the most important quality the former child stars share — besides whatever combination of genes and parenting that allowed them to avert child star tragedy — is likability. This sitcom is pure, easy-to-digest formula working from the “Who’s the Boss?” template, but Hart and Lawrence apply a deft, light touch for laughs.

Dogs in the City 8 p.m., Channel 4

If you wish Cesar Milan “The Dog Whisperer” helped harried New Yorkers navigate dog ownership or you just like watching other people struggle with their pets, then this new reality series chronicling the adventures of Big Apple “dog guru” Justin Silver just might be your cup of kibble.
