What’s on TV tonight: Critic’s corner

True Blood Sunday, 9 p.m., HBO

When the vampires, fairies, werewolves and assorted other supernatural characters return to Bon Temps on Sunday, the action picks up pretty quickly while questions still linger. The two developments that have us licking our fangs for season five are the arrival of “Law & Order: SVU” vet Chris Meloni as Roman, the 500-year-old head of the “Vampire Authority” who is stumping for peaceful coexistence with the humans and a road trip for Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard, pictured).

Longmire Sunday 10 p.m., A&E

Westerns are resurgent and this new series, based on the books about the character Walt Longmire by Craig Johnson, has a lot going for it, starting with rugged Aussie Robert Taylor as the rock-solid title character, a newly widowed Wyoming sheriff. It also includes one of our favorite TV stars, Katee Sackhoff, a.k.a Kara “Starbuck” Thrace of “Battlestar Galactica,” as Longmire’s newest deputy. Pictured: Sackhoff and Taylor.
