Hollywood Heights 9 p.m., Nickelodeon
Daytime soaps may be dying but Nickelodeon is taking a chance that telenovelas can work in the US. This new show, an adaptation of the popular Mexican telenovela “Alcanzar una Estrella,” will air five nights a week throughout the summer, and, unlike an ongoing series such as “Degrassi,” will tell a complete story in 80 episodes. It will chronicle the trials and tribulations of a group of young actor-singer-model wannabes and already-ares. For bonus points, the executive producer Jill Farren Phelps — who previously worked on “General Hospital” — roped in James Franco, who also played a recurring role on “GH” as part of his try-it-all artistic approach. This time out he’ll play “an eccentric movie mogul.” Pictured: Cody Longo.
Tia & Tamera 8 p.m., Style
I always wonder if identical twins who make a name for themselves professionally as a team ever get sick of each other. That doesn’t seem to be the case for the genial former “Sister, Sister” stars who return for a second season of their reality series. Pictured: Tamera (left) and Tia.
