Jane by Design 9 p.m., ABC Family

Teri Hatcher didn’t waste any time after saying goodbye to Wisteria Lane to head to a new TV address. The former “Desperate Housewives” star pops up for four episodes as Kate, mother to the titular undercover design star. Her character left her kids behind years ago, so it is not a happy reunion. Hatcher, who closed out her previous stint on the long-running soap by becoming a widow and driving off into the sunset with her son and pregnant daughter in tow, will also direct an episode of ABC Family’s “Devil Wears Prada”-esque series. Frontline 10 p.m., Channel 2

Some folks dread going to the dentist, while others don’t have insurance or simply can’t afford it. Whatever the reason for avoidance, the results are becoming increasingly problematic as patients are turning to hospital emergency rooms for emergency dental work, and corporate chains — whose services may come with hidden costs to the consumer — are popping up to fill a gap.
