Weeds Sunday, 10 p.m., Showtime
It’s the beginning of the end for this long-running comedy, which picks up right where season 7 left off, revealing who — if anybody — was shot. When that smoke clears the show will make another time jump. With prison stints, cross-country moves, family warfare, and the increasingly hard edges to the humor of the Botwin family marijuana business, some might agree that it is time for the series to be put out of its misery, but during its peak, the show, and star Mary-Louise Parker, provided some high times.
Episodes Sunday, 10:30 p.m., Showtime
On much fresher ground is this series, starting its second season Sunday, about the fictional post-“Friends”/“Joey” career of actor Matt LeBlanc. In the first season the Newton native scored major accolades playing a hilarious bundle of traits — arrogance, insecurity, geniality, and hedonism — as he stumbled back toward television in the hockey comedy “Pucks!” This season will deal with the fallout of Matt’s roll in the hay with Beverly (Tamsin Greig) as “Pucks!” endures a rocky debut season.
