ONE HOUR PHOTO ★★
(Comcast Movie Collections: Mystery) A thriller that takes off from the notion that the guy at the photomat is privy to the most intimate moments of our lives — and what if he wanted in? Robin Williams plays a man desperate for attention in a way that eerily echoes his own need for some, but the film itself is juiceless and studied. (R; runs through Dec. 31, 2013)
MEN OF HONOR ★★★
(Comcast Movie Collections: War) If you don’t mind its by-the-numbers approach, this biopic about the US Navy’s first black master diver, Carl Brashear, is a rousing film based on a true story. It restarts Cuba Gooding Jr.’s stalled career, with big assists from Robert De Niro, as a hardheaded mentor, and Charlize Theron, as De Niro’s gutsy wife. (R; runs through Dec. 31, 2013)
ME, MYSELF AND IRENE ★★★
(Comcast Movie Collections: Crime) Jim Carrey’s farce about a Rhode Island state trooper with a split personality will please fans awaiting his return to the contortionist slapstick that made him a star. Still, this Farrelly brothers film is frankly in and out. It has laughs. It also has a lot of dead air and almost no plot at all. It needs help, and gets a lot of it from the black triplet genius rappers. (R; runs through Dec. 31, 2013)
