Anger Management 9:30 p.m., FX
Charlie Sheen’s new sitcom set ratings records for FX in its debut last week. It was the number one prime-time scripted comedy series premiere in cable history, the number one premiere in FX history, and number one with viewers in the coveted 18-49 age demographic. The show aired back-to-back episodes and grew in the second half-hour to 5.74 million viewers and over 6 million with encore viewings factored in. This all bodes well for the show’s quirky deal. If “Anger Management” hits a certain ratings figure in its first 10 episodes, it will trigger an order for 90 more to be produced in the next two years. Tonight will be the true test, as the series slides into its regular time slot and the curiosity factor has died down. Will viewers stick with what is essentially a conventional broadcast network sitcom on a cable network that built its name on taking the unconventional route with such series as “The Shield,” “Nip/Tuck,” and current “Anger Management” Thursday night buddies “Louie” and “Wilfred”?
