Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

Tyler Golden/NBC

The Voice 8 p.m., Channel 7

Billie Joe Armstrong has gotten a bit of attention lately, and not just because of the new Green Day albums. He had an onstage meltdown at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, and then he went to rehab. But Armstrong (above) will nonetheless appear as a mentor on this music contest, since his appearance was taped early in the summer. He’s on Team Xtina. Other advisers: Mary J. Blige, Michael Buble, and Rob Thomas.

Mansfield Park 8 p.m., Flix

What the what? That’s right, I’m going old school with this pick, an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel. The movie, from 1999, was controversial because director Patricia Rozema wasn’t entirely faithful to Austen and because she added some contemporary frankness — sex, slavery — to the story. But I admired it, and the cast: Frances O’Connor, Embeth Davidtz, Jonny Lee Miller, Alessandro Nivola, Hugh Bonneville, James Purefoy, and Harold Pinter. Not too shabby. Pictured: O’Connor and Nivola.
