COWBOYS & ALIENS

(HBO on Comcast) A hell-for-leather action film with a healthy serving of scares. Badman Daniel Craig (terrific) and cattle baron Harrison Ford (engagingly cranky) are two of the Old West types confronting nasty E.T.’s on the open plains. What the movie lacks in originality and authenticity it makes up for in pell-mell multiplex entertainment. With Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde.
(PG-13; runs through Nov. 26)

50/50 ½

(Showtime on Comcast) Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a young man battling cancer and Seth Rogen is his best friend in a movie that tries to deepen the raunchy bromance genre. Too contrived to be the Oscar bell-ringer early reports had claimed, the movie’s most affecting when it shows young dudes struggling to come to terms with the ultimate party crasher. With Anna Kendrick.
(R; runs through Nov. 30)

OUT COLD

(Comcast Free Movies) In this appealingly grotesque black comedy, a very bad woman (Teri Garr) who has no qualms about murder stashes her husband in the deep freeze of his butcher shop. With John Lithgow and Randy Quaid. (R; runs through Nov. 12)
