On Demand movie highlights

(Comcast Movie Collections: Just In) Tim Burton has got his groove back. This big-screen revamp of the much-loved (if ridiculous) late-’60s Gothic soap opera is both sendup and homage, and it recaptures the show’s doomy vibe with blissful comic precision. Johnny Depp is great fun as Barnabas Collins, an 18th-century vampire having trouble adjusting to the polyester 1970s. With Michelle Pfeiffer and Eva Green. (PG-13; runs through Mar. 13)

Ty Burr

(Starz on Comcast) This absorbing Kevin Costner movie is a revenge picture in which two cowboys (Costner and Robert Duvall) go after the despotic landowner. This is the first persuasive Western since Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven” a decade ago, and most of its taciturnity, philosophical sheen, and climactic bravado are borrowed from that movie. The great cast includes Annette Bening, Diego Luna, Michael Gambon, and Michael Jeter. (R; runs through Nov. 1)

Wesley Morris

(Showtime on Comcast) Canine Buddy plays football, and a bit of matchmaker, in the second of what could be a series of sports-minded-dog-saves-the-day movies. Romance is an added ingredient as Gregory Harrison portrays a vet and potential dad to Josh, now a junior-high quarterback. Despite its less-interesting supporting characters and predictable plot, this installment remains decent, bland family fare. (G; runs through Oct. 31)
