Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

Tonight the battling continues, with celebrity mentors Rob Thomas, Michael Buble, Mary J. Blige, and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong popping in to proffer some wisdom. If Armstrong (above) seems conspicuously at ease given his recent tirade-to-rehab trajectory, it’s because these segments were taped over the summer.

2012 Presidential Debate 9 p.m., multiple networks

Tonight the (other) battling continues, as the candidates step up to their podiums, sharpen their nails, shine up their smiles, and deploy all manner of gotchas, zingers, and creatively enhanced fact-esque data darts. Bob Schieffer (of “Face the Nation”) moderates.
