(Showtime on Comcast) A willful act of career suicide in which actor Joaquin Phoenix plays an actor named Joaquin Phoenix who quits the business, grows a beard that would qualify him for the Taliban, and enters into an ill-advised rap career. DEEP WATER ★★½ (Comcast Free Movies) This English documentary recounts a barely sane challenge race held during 1968 and ’69 in which nine yachtsmen set out on the first nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe. The film focuses on the least plausible competitor, who came to an exceedingly bad end. Although there are astonishing moments, the subject cries out for the mania — and artistry — of a Werner Herzog. (PG; runs through Nov. 21)
