On Demand movie highlights

(HBO on Comcast) How do you make a big entertainment about dissatisfaction? Hire Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Brad Pitt to do the voices, then ask them to enjoy themselves. The comical evil-genius title character (Ferrell) gets bored after vanquishing his flamboyantly noble archenemy (Pitt). The bliss of ‘‘Megamind’’ is the way it pursues a solution for the tired problems of both superheroes and movies about them. (PG; runs through Nov. 30)

(Starz on Comcast) A chic, shallow, pleasurable French comedy set amid the hotel suites of Biarritz and the French Riviera. Audrey Tautou (”Amelie”) is almost believable as a heartless golddigger, and the sweetly deadpan Gad Elmaleh is charming as a busboy who becomes a gigolo for love. The luxury accomodations are the movie’s real star, laid out before us like lifestyle porn. Somewhere, Lubitsch is smiling indulgently. In French, with subtitles. (PG-13; runs through July 15)

Ty Burr

(TMC on Comcast) In some not-too-terribly-distant future, the public gathers to watch great big robots beat the screws out of each other, while we watch Hugh Jackman and a kid named Dakota Goyo play father and son with a lot of razzle-dazzle. They train an underdog robot. You know the rest. Yet you don’t know how entertaining the rest actually is until it’s happening to you. (PG; runs through Nov. 29)
