THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER ★ ★

(Cinemax on Comcast) Installment three of these adaptations of C.S. Lewis’s books is here, although little reason to cheer. At some point, our young heroes return to Narnia and are told they’ll need ‘‘great courage’’ to break an evil spell. Could that spell be boredom? (PG; runs through Dec. 6) Wesley Morris

TOWER HEIST ★ ★ ★

(HBO on Comcast) Smoothly made, smart enough, and funny. Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead a crew to steal back the money stolen from them by a crooked billionaire (Alan Alda) living in a Manhattan high-rise. The cast is big and good, but, by far, its best member is Stephen Henderson, as a let-down doorman. He gives a light, frivolous movie a soul it was never meant to have. (PG-13; runs through Dec. 31) Wesley Morris

CASPER ★ ★ ½

(Encore on Comcast) Sweet little Casper the friendly ghost is almost overwhelmed by too much going on around him, especially an attempt to flip the story into "Addams Family" territory. None of the plot strands play out richly, but Christina Ricci is a plus as the girl Casper gets a crush on, and the gothic mansion he haunts is fun to look at in this user-friendly factory product. (PG; runs through Jan. 17)
