The Year in Pup Culture 9 p.m., Animal Planet
Oh yes, yes indeed. Animal Planet has a bunch of puppies reenacting scenes from the year’s headlines. It’s the puppying of America, as the cute ones get positioned as Olympic athletes (above) and, I’m guessing, characters in the likes of “Argo” or “Les Miserables” or “Homeland.” I’d love to see a little cocker spaniel as Katie Holmes and a Jack Russell terrier as Tom Cruise, breaking up.
Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol 8 p.m., Channel 7
Sometimes I call my dog Mr. Magoo. But I digress. Saturday night, NBC is bringing back this 1962 animated holiday classic, which hasn’t aired since the 1980s. Jim Backus plays Mr. Magoo, who is Ebenezer Scrooge in a musical adaptation of the Dickens story. Remember the Tiny Tim ’toon longing for some “razzleberry dressing”? Fun Fact: Jack Cassidy and Morey Amsterdam, who was Buddy on “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” both make voice appearances.
Made in Jersey 8 and 9 p.m., Channel 4
