Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Channel 5

I wonder if Dick Clark, who died in April, ever dreamed that a TV special in his honor would be hosted by Jenny McCarthy and Fergie. The pair will salute Clark with a retrospective on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Celebrates Dick Clark” at 8 p.m. Then, at 10, ABC will air “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2013” with a half-hour break for the local news at 11. That annual special will round up performances by Carly Rae Jepsen, Taylor Swift, PSY, Flo Rida, and Jason Aldean. Pictured (from left): Fergie, Seacrest, and McCarthy.

Live From Lincoln Center 8 p.m., Channel 2

The New York Philharmonic will honor composer, conductor, and EGOT winner Marvin Hamlisch at this New Year’s party, officially subtitled “One Singular Sensation.” Hamlisch was scheduled to conduct at the event, prior to his death in August. Among the performers: Joshua Bell, Michael Feinstein, Josh Groban, Megan Hilty, Brian d’Arcy James, and Raul Esparza. Audra McDonald is the host.
