Critic’s Corner: Thursday, January 3

Buckwild 10 p.m., MTV

There’s the side of MTV that is trying to develop good scripted series, including “Awkward.” And then there is the much larger, desperate-for-attention, ugly side that wants to make trouble and troll for ratings. “Buckwild” is the latter, a Southern answer to “Jersey Shore,” which finished its run last year in the same timeslot. A bunch of “friends” in West Virginia drink too much, have sex, fight, and get bleeped and blurred. Does the show feed into stereotypes about drunk hillbillies? Is it trying to jump on the “Honey Boo Boo” redneck craze? Uh, duh.

Kathy Griffin: Kennedie Center On-Hers 10 p.m., Bravo

Gotta love to hate her titles. Prior to this classic, Bravo has aired “Kathy Griffin: 50 & Not Pregnant,” “Kathy Griffin: Tired Hooker,” and “Kathy Griffin: Whores on Crutches.” In this new stand-up set, Griffin bash-ees include Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion, and that old staple, the “Real Housewives.” Griffin also riffs on “The Real Couples Therapy Beyond Scared Housewives.”
