IF LUCY FELL ½

(Encore on Comcast) Quirky dialogue and verbal inventiveness carry actor-writer-director Eric Schaeffer’s second film past his inability to surprise us even once. Every move is telegraphed, but you’ll be disarmed by what comes out of the mouths of Schaeffer’s romantic procrastinator, Sarah Jessica Parker’s avoider, and Elle Macpherson’s dream girl. (R; runs through April 26)

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: DOG DAYS

(Comcast Movie Collections: Just In) In the third adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s kid-lit series, Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) pretends to get a summer job at a country club to appease his dad — and to get closer to his crush. With a mix of base and lofty impulses, Toback offers a complex and boldly entertaining study of modern moral dilemmas. (R; runs through Oct. 1)
