Downton Abbey Sunday at 9 p.m., Channel 2

The prettiest soap opera of them all returns, with lots of new joys and, in particular, tragedies for our beloved Crawleys and their cadre of servants. The future of the house itself is one of the season’s big themes, as is the return of Sybil and her working-class husband.
Shirley MacLaine (above) appears in Sunday’s two-hour premiere, as Cora’s American mother.

An Amish Murder Sunday at 9 p.m., Lifetime

Who knew the Amish would be so hip, so cool, so now? Unlike TLC’s “Breaking Amish” and Discovery’s “Amish Mafia,” which purport to be reality shows, this one is scripted. “An Amish Murder” features Neve Campbell as a woman who returns to her Amish childhood community in Ohio as the chief of police. The movie, like Jennifer Love Hewitt’s movie “The Client List,” could become a series if it does well. Pictured: Campbell with Jilon Vanover.
