Very few people watched the first season of this series last year. And that was too bad, because it was an excellent, smart character drama with comedic elements. Written by Mike White (more in “Chuck and Buck” than “School of Rock” mode), the series gave us a high-strung woman played beautifully by Laura Dern trying — and failing, and trying again — to change for the better. It was a show with small victories but, like “Nurse Jackie,” lots of hard knocks — not exactly a big audience pleaser. On Sunday, the second season finds Dern’s Amy now trying to bring down the company that, last season, demoted her after her nervous breakdown.
