Critic’s Corner: What’s on TV tonight

Timothy White/E!

By Sarah Rodman

Chasing the Saturdays
10 p.m., E!

In Britain, girl group the Saturdays (above) are a huge sensation. The comely quintet of Vanessa White, Una Healy, Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, and Frankie Sandford has scored 11 top 10 hits. In the States, girl group the Saturdays are starring in a cheesy Sunday night E! reality show in which they come to the States for a promotional tour, attend awards shows, Skype with their family members, cry on each other’s shoulders, and, literally, wrestle with one another while living in posh apartments in Los Angeles. They recently performed acoustically for reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif., and, while they can carry a tune, it’s hard to picture them carrying it very far on the back of this less than Spice-y series.

Downton Abbey
9 p.m., Channel 2

Wondering how good old Lady Sybil and Branson are doing in Dublin? Turns out, not so great. Tom gets in a wee bit of trouble that brings the young, and expecting, couple back to Downton to the delight and dismay of everyone involved.
