Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

Craig Blankenhorn/The CW

The Carrie Diaries 8 p.m., Channel 56

Dear Diary: One of these days I’m going to dump my three best friends, and find three even more fabulous and style-driven best friends. I’m also going to give up on this blond pretty boy Sebastian and become mistreated by a guy whose name isn’t worth mentioning. I also plan on getting cosmetic surgery that will enlarge my
nose and narrow my face. But, my sweet diary, I will never, ever,
ever change my hairstyle. Long blond curls are forever. Pictured:

Girls 9 p.m., HBO2

In the season premiere, we learned that Hannah is dating a black guy, Sandy, played by Donald Glover. It’s Lena Dunham’s direct response to criticism about how her first season was too white. But in Sunday’s episode, which reairs Monday, it’s clear that Dunham has crafted that meta-response in a way that is true to her own vision of her character. Sandy is a Republican, and when Hannah calls him out on his politics, he calls her out on her racial immaturity. It’s a great, charged scene.
