HANNA ½

(HBO on Comcast) The spooky Saoirse Ronan (‘‘Atonement’’) plays a teenage girl raised to be an unstoppable vengeance machine by her ex-CIA dad (Eric Bana). A slick, watchable, hollow action drama that reaffirms Joe Wright’s talent as a gifted over-director. Cate Blanchett hams it up as the Big Bad Wolf, while Olivia Williams, playing a footloose hippie mom, quietly pockets the movie. (PG-13; runs through Feb. 11)

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA:
THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER

(HBO on Comcast) Installment three of these adaptations of C.S. Lewis’s books is here, although there’s little reason to cheer. At some point, our young heroes return to Narnia and are told they’ll need ‘‘great courage’’ to break an evil spell. Could that spell be boredom? (PG; runs through Feb. 11)

GOON

(Showtime on Comcast) Seann William Scott plays a minor league hockey “enforcer” with limited skills, but a gift for beating up opponents. (The story was loosely adapted from a book co-written by Massachusetts-bred ex-minor leaguer Doug Smith.) The movie’s unlikely sincerity can’t completely offset its ugliness for less bloodthirsty viewers, but it helps, and it does smooth over some narrative rough edges. (R; runs through Feb. 12)
