FEAR

(Encore on Demand) Despite an adequate performance by Mark Wahlberg, this thriller is formulaic and not frightening. Wahlberg plays the boyfriend from hell who decides he must destroy his girlfriend’s family. Reese Witherspoon is his gullible lover, who learns he’s a psycho just a little too late. (R; runs through April 19)

FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN

(Encore on Demand) All the characters are computer-generated and impart an arrestingly fresh look to this otherwise routine space opera about yet another invasion of the body snatchers. It’s such a visual landmark, in fact, that you wish there were more story, and less nebulous philosophizing, to go with it. (PG-13; runs through March 28)

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER

(Encore on Demand) A so-so slasher movie in which a Darth Vader-like stalker starts picking off high school grads sharing a guilty secret in a North Carolina seacoast town. Although Kevin Williamson wrote it, it’s no “Scream.” It’s more like one of the movies Williamson’s “Scream” parodies. (R; runs through

April 5)
