On Demand movie highlights

KILL BILL, VOL. 1

(Starz on Comcast) The worst thing about [this film] . . . is that after 93 minutes of some of the most spellbinding storytelling . . . it ends. The plot is simple and sad enough. A woman (Uma Thurman) seeks revenge on the man (David Carradine) and the four assassins who killed her entire wedding party and left her for dead. The picture uses the entire history of screen violence to enthrall. (R; runs through July 1)

KILL BILL, VOL. 2

(Starz on Comcast) When was the last time you got high from a movie? Deeper and better (and less gory) than “Vol. 1,” the second installment of Quentin Tarantino’s ode to vengeful maternal hitwomen and film geekery East and West is insanely good fun and, in the end, startlingly moving. David Carradine, Michael Madsen, and Daryl Hannah plug into the languid spaghetti-Western vibe, but you come out astonished by the physical and emotional distance traversed by star Uma Thurman. (R; runs through July 1)

AIR FORCE ONE ½

(Starz on Comcast) A hard-hitting chief executive and Vietnam veteran (Harrison Ford) takes on a gang of Russian terrorists after they hijack the presidential plane. It’s a preposterous film, but nonetheless lively and skillfully made. (R; runs through
April 5)
