Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

Discovery Channel

The Devils Ride 10 p.m., Discovery Channel

Sons of Who? This reality series, set in San Diego, follows a motorcycle club named the Laffing Devils and their rivalry with the Sinister Mob Syndicate, a.k.a. Sin Mob. Is the show real? At this point in the evolution of the genre, that’s a pointless question, although the characters — Danny Boy, Sandman, Billy the Kid, Bubba, Gypsy, Rockem, White Boi — do seem too good to be true. The Following 9 p.m., Channel 25

This show, which is a small hit, is pretty hollow and derivative. The whole “Silence of the Lambs” thing is just so done. (NBC’s “Hannibal,” due April 4, will have an uphill battle.) But “The Following” moves at such a fast tempo, it’s hard not to get caught up in it. The pacing is expert, at least for now. The show may become another “24,” if the writers aren’t careful, meaning that each episode will need to be more awesome-riveting-spectacular-high-stakes than the next. Apocalypse on a weekly basis is exhausting.
