THE IDES OF MARCH ½

(Encore on Comcast) George Clooney has some shocking news: Politics is a dirty business. The actor directed, co-wrote, and costars in this entertaining but hollow moral drama about a young campaign whiz (Ryan Gosling) learning the facts of life from his boss (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and the presidential candidate (Clooney) they’re trying to get elected. With Paul Giamatti and Evan Rachel Wood. (R; runs through May 13)

FOOLS RUSH IN

(Encore on Comcast) A Manhattan WASP (Matthew Perry) and a Las Vegas Latina (Salma Hayek) make for an appealing enough couple in this romantic comedy about cultural collision. Overall, though, the movie falls into somewhat predictable, sitcom-esque territory. (PG-13; runs through May 10)

(Starz on Comcast) A deadpan sci-fi comedy in which Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith don Blues Brothers garb and keep the world safe from aliens who, we come to learn, landed long ago. It has enough wit and self-confidence to make for sophisticated mass entertainment, while featuring some moments of real pop-culture brilliance. (PG-13; runs through June 1)
