Host Seth MacFarlane balanced class, crass

Asking whether it was a long night at the Oscars is like asking if it was a whiny night on Twitter.

Of course it was, and if you watched the spectacle from the pre-shows all the way to the end of the night, you were probably ready to audition for one of the title roles in “The Walking Dead.” The apportionment of Oscar time was just so very wrong, as the songs and clips and dumb bits just kept stomping on what was left of our patience. Can you assign a life coach to a TV event, or give it a prescription for Adderall?

The "I saw your b**** song" was about as crass as you can get. A very bad start to one of the worst Oscars shows I have ever seen. They always save the best winners till last when everyone has long gone to bed.

MacFarland was terrible...can't remember a worst host...the writing for all of the presenters was equally awful...sounded like a group of high school boys put it together...and to top it off, the First Lady of the United States should not be reduced to being an Oscar presenter...what are they thinking? First she is dancing with Jimmy Fallon in drag, then she is using the White House to crash the Academy Awards...Who is thinking up her schedule???!!!  No dignity left in the office.

I do agree about Michelle Obama. She needs to be more dignified and not so "accessible". The oval office's inhabitants use to promote AWE, now it's just oh shucks. Shades of Jimmy Carter, but even he did not go on talk shows or oscars.

Ditto above sentiments.  Worst host/show in memory less Streisand and Lewis speach.

Were you watching the same show I watched?  I thought MacFarlane was terrific - a great song and dance man.  Soft humor and great stage presence and timing.

I agree with Potleac. Do people really prefer the a-kissing type of announcer? I thought Jennifer Hudson, whom I usually love, screamed through a song I didn't understand and I think the memoriams next year will start featuring groundskeepers and elevator operators; this- when they didn't even include poor Farrah Fawcett the year she died. The public doesn't know these people. The academy should do a hand-out program listing these memoriams listing these people the oscar audience might know and identify with , but the public does not. Do these losing honorees really get $45,000. goody bags? Those that have- get; those who don't have -don't.

I enjoyed this year's Oscar Show.  Seth MacFarland was funny.  He can sing.  I didn't groan at the domestic violence ( Brown/Rhianna/Gibson ) references.  Mild, late night comedian jokes.  Songs by excellent artists.  Hey folks, it's an awards show.  Sit back, have a drink and a snack and enjoy.  When I don't like a show, athletic event or music on the radio...I turn it off or leave, no complaining.  Too much else to go to.  I've often just clicked off the TV when it was boring and picked up a book to read.  I've even done it half way through a columnist's column.

he was certainly a terrible host. very crass and toilet humor for middle schoolers. instead of honoring achievement at the movies and dressing up in tuxes, he mocked them all and insulted them and used poor taste to do so. worst ever...

Seth McFarlane was hilarious...lighten up, people! He can sing, dance, tell a joke, and poke fun in a unmalicious manner. The mocking and insulting are expected and most of those singled out, enjoyed it. The b--b song was poking fun at Hollywood...those actresses will do anything if offered enough money, and did you notice how many showed up in ultra revealing gowns? He knows Hollywood and is not in awe of celebrity as so many in the US are....Past awards have been boring; he was lively and entertaining 90% of the time. Good for him!

Oops! Should have typed an unmalicious manner...
