EASY A

(Comcast Free Movies) A high school satire with a lethally sharp script and a big, smart, adorable star performance from Emma Stone as a high schooler whose unearned bad reputation parallels ‘‘The Scarlet Letter.’’ The final third spins manically out of control but until then it’s good, caustic fun. With Amanda Bynes, Thomas Haden Church, Stanley Tucci, and Patricia Clarkson. (PG-13; runs through May 1)

BELOVED ½

(Comcast Free Movies) Writer-director Christophe Honoré’s love affair with the French New Wave gets stretched to the breaking point in this overlong, semi-musical meditation on love and pain. Chiara Mastroianni is beginning to resemble the magnificent ruin her father, Marcello, was; her mother, the legendary Catherine Deneuve, plays her mother. In French, with subtitles. (Unrated; runs through May 2)

MY FAVORITE MARTIAN

(Encore on Comcast) A film adaptation of the ’60s TV series about a reporter trying to cover up the arrival of a Martian until he can repair his spaceship and get back home. Christopher Lloyd is energetic as the alien, and the special effects here are pretty special, but overall the film is just all right. (PG; runs through May 3)
