THE FOG

(STARZ on Comcast) This sturdy remake of the 1980 John Carpenter horror film is more than a missed opportunity, but only just. Selma Blair, Tom Welling (”Smallville”), and Maggie Grace (”Lost”) are among the citizens of a small coastal town visited by vengeful wraiths under cover of the title weather condition. Light on gore, it’s perfectly acceptable for teens looking for a good Friday-night scare. (PG-13; runs through May 16)

COLD MOUNTAIN ½

(STARZ on Comcast) Charles Frazier’s bestseller about a Confederate soldier’s long walk home has been brought to the screen by Anthony Minghella (“The English Patient”) with taste, panache, and a knack for episodic brilliance, but the final half-hour is Hollywood business as usual. Jude Law mesmerizes as the hero and Renée Zellweger is a deep-dish hoot as a resourceful mountain woman, but Nicole Kidman, as Law’s beloved, suffers with increasingly absurd glamour. (R; runs through July 31)

JURASSIC PARK

(STARZ on Comcast) Prepare for a big tyrannosaurus rex attack. While the plot and characters may always have been somewhat hackneyed, the special effects and computer-generated dinosaurs were sensational at the time it came out. Also, Spielberg has, or at least once had, a real knack for action. (PG-13; runs through May 2)
