Mad Men Sunday at 10 p.m., AMC
Last week’s episode was interesting, if not entirely successful. I like the idea of making connections between Don’s childhood as the son of a prostitute and his treatment of the women in his life. But the lines were drawn too clearly, such as when he threw money at Sylvia (Linda Cardellini, pictured) and when he sat outside his apartment door. Also, the historical intrusions onto the story line — “Hair,” the Tet Offensive — were forced. Still, Trudy coming down on the horrible Peter was fantastic, Don undermining his Jaguar presentation was brilliantly done, and the sad sense that Peggy has ruined her sweetest relationship, with Stan, was touching. On Sunday: Joan gets a surprise visit.
