Critic’s Corner: What’s on TV Friday

Live From Lincoln Center: Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel” With the New York Philharmonic Friday, 9 p.m., Channel 2

The colorful musical comes to the small screen with a star-studded cast chock-full of Tony Award nominees and winners including Kelli O’Hara (“South Pacific,” “The Light in the Piazza”) and Shuler Hensley (“Oklahoma,” “Young Frankenstein”) and opera star Nathan Gunn (above, with O’Hara). For those who’ve never seen the show but know many of its famous songs — including “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” — this is an excellent introduction to an American classic.
