On Demand movie highlights

(Showtime on Comcast) The unsinkable Reese Witherspoon reprises her role as Elle Woods, the Bel Air sorority glamourpuss with the Harvard Law degree. This time she’s on Capitol Hill crusading to end animal cruelty. This sequel to the 2000 sleeper is as disarming as its predecessor, though the clothes are terrifying at best. (PG-13; runs through May 7)

Wesley Morris

(Showtime on Comcast) This Tom Cruise film — the true story of a plot to kill Hitler by a group of Nazi officers — is not a disaster but a slightly hollow action-drama hampered by a lack of suspense. Satisfying character turns by Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, and Eddie Izzard, prop up the star’s good (if thin) performance. (PG-13; runs through May 7)

Ty Burr

(Showtime on Comcast) This film set a grand new visual standard for afterlife movies, with its heaven seemingly designed by Monet and Van Gogh and its hell dreamed up by Hieronymous Bosch. Try as they will, though, Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra, as a couple trying to reunite after death, can’t provide an emotional dimension equal to the stunning visuals. (PG-13; runs through May 7)
