On Demand movie highlights

CURSED ½

(Starz on Comcast) Jesse Eisenberg and Christina Ricci are a brother and sister who come into contact with an infectious wolf in the Hollywood Hills. The film marks the reunion of director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson who made the “Scream” trilogy. While lazier than those films, this one seems better than it is compared to a recent glut of really lousy horror movies. (PG-13; runs through July 11)

JOHN CARTER

(Starz on Comcast) Edgar Rice Burroughs’s 1912 epic pulp novel ‘‘A Princess of Mars’’ comes to the screen after influencing a century of rocket rodeos. Against the odds, it rises to the level of its best imitations; your 10-year-old will go gaga. Taylor Kitsch plays the Earthling hero; Andrew Stanton (‘‘WALL-E’’) directs from a script by, among others, writer Michael Chabon. (PG-13; runs through July 11)

WATERWORLD ½

(Encore on Comcast) It’s certainly not the disaster we’ve been reading it is. Actually, it’s a splashy “Mad Max” clone in a futureworld covered with water. Big, high-impact action visuals carry the showdown between new-breed good guy Kevin Costner and comically over-the-top evil honcho Dennis Hopper. (PG-13; runs through July 11)
