THE THREE MUSKETEERS

(Showtime on Comcast) Call it the Robert Downey Jr. Meets Sherlock Holmes Effect. A classic popular adventure gets overblown, juiced-up, and generally CGI-ified. Logan Lerman is out of his depth as D’Artagnan. Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, and Luke Evans are fine (Macfadyen and Stevenson especially) as Athos, Aramis, and Porthos, respectively. Christoph Waltz is glumly underutilized as Cardinal Richelieu. (PG-13; runs through June 4)

NIGHT AND THE CITY ½

(Comcast Free Movies) The small-time hustler at the center of this remake (of a classic 1950 noir) is a role Robert De Niro was born to play — raging bull artist. The supporting cast (Alan King, Jack Warden, Eli Wallach) supplies stylistic rightness, too. But director Irwin Winkler can’t come up with a dramatic knockout punch, so this is only a success by decision. (R; runs through June 4)

DRUGSTORE COWBOY ½

(Showtime on Comcast) Fresh, gutsy, uncondescending, this junkie’s-eye view about suburban drug addicts is an original American comedy with bite and cold morning-after snap. Matt Dillon gives the performance of his career as the smart, funny, fatalistic leader of a dopey pack, and Kelly Lynch isn’t far behind as his booster-rocket wife. (R; runs through June 4)
