THE FOG OF WAR ½

(Starz on Comcast) The 95 minutes spent listening to former secretary of defense Robert McNamara explain his roles in World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War achieves both a lasting chill of relevance and blood-quickening intensity. This stirring documentary consists of interviews between the then 85-year-old McNamara and the filmmaker Errol Morris, though their conversations often feel more intimate and surreal than a director interrogating his subject. He’s in confession. (PG-13; runs through June 10)

Wesley Morris

BELOW ½

(Starz on Comcast) There’s plenty of style and talent in this old-fashioned ghost story aboard a World War II American submarine. If only the frightful foreplay led to something scarier and more satisfying. (R; runs through June 13)

Janice Page

COLDBLOODED ½

(Showtime on Comcast) Peter Riegert is fun to watch as a veteran hit man coming unglued while tutoring Jason Priestley’s alienated young designated hitter. Most of the rest of it comes up short on laughs and inventiveness — it seems skimpy. (R; runs through July 30)
