Cellular

(Starz on Comcast) Like a segment from a lost episode of “Night Gallery,” David R. Ellis’s 2004 film gives us Kim Basinger as a woman who has been kidnapped and locked in an attic. Fiddling with a broken phone, she’s somehow able to connect to the cellphone of a slacking pretty boy (Chris Evans), whom she persuades to zip around Los Angeles and stop thugs from killing her husband and son. It’s suspenseful, knowingly stupid fun. (PG-13; runs through Nov. 21)

Jack the Giant Slayer

(Comcast Movie Collections: Just In) In director Bryan Singer’s clever 3-D version of the folk tale, Nicholas Hoult (“Warm Bodies”) is earnest, leather-hoodied Jack, who heads up the beanstalk with Ewan McGregor’s knight to rescue a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) imperiled by power-hungry Stanley Tucci — and giants, of course. The stratospheric beanstalk is a show-stealing effects element. (PG-13; runs through Nov. 17)

Unfortunately, Isabelle Adjani is too simpering to create sympathy. (R; runs through Nov. 10)
