The Reluctant Fundamentalist½

(Comcast Movie Collections: All New Movies) Mira Nair (“Monsoon Wedding”) adapts Mohsin Hamid’s acclaimed novel about a young Pakistani (Riz Ahmed, the best thing in the film) who attains the American dream on the eve of 9/11. A quiet character study on the page has been given a high-stakes political-thriller frame, and not for the best. With Kate Hudson, Liev Schreiber, and Kiefer Sutherland. (R; runs through Nov. 19)

Still Crazy

(Starz on Comcast) In its unexpectedly sweet way, this film about a ’70s band, trying to get it together 20 years after a memorable flameout winningly draws upon the generous energies to be found in rock. That and its British love of eccentricity and failure keeps us caring about the surviving band members trying to play their way past various midlife crises and jump start their lives and careers. Its ambitions are modest, but it’s a charmer. (R; runs through Oct. 31)

Hush½

(Encore on Comcast) Jessica Lange provides tangy fun as a territorial and dynastic-minded Southern demento determined to get rid of her daughter-in-law, Gwyneth Paltrow, once she delivers the baby she’s carrying. Predictable, but flavorful. (PG-13; runs through Nov. 21)
